Early Morning 2.5 miles

This morning the Slippery Rock University Women's lacrosse team had to get up at 7 am to go support our fellow teammate run her 2.5 mile. For our 2.5 mile we must run it multiple times a year to try to make a personal record each time. In my previous 2.5 I made a personal record of 19 mins and 23 seconds. I have ran the 2.5 five times now since I entered SRU my freshman year. This upcoming friday will be my sixth time running it and I am hoping to beat my personal record. It is going to be difficult because we are changing surfaces from regularly running on the stadium track outside to now running inside on the field house track. Wish me luck!

  1. Mary, this is very similar to the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) that I have to take for the ROTC program. About two times every semester I have to pass my APFT in order to keep my scholarship from the army. The army APFT test consists of 2 min of push-ups, followed by 2 min of sit-ups, and then a 2 mile run for time. Although we do not have try to make a new personal record each time we take it, we just have to pass it. Running inside the field house from running outside makes a big difference. The field house is really dry which makes it a litter harder to breath. I would suggest running in the field house a few times in order to prepare yourself for your upcoming run. Best of luck on trying to get your new PR Mary!

  3. I'm dying right now. Was it Jordan that you had to cheer on? You girls are so supportive and I love how you all come to the gym together. Changing surfaces will be good because at least your lungs won't die from the cold outside. It just seems so much longer when you're inside. Best of Luck!!! Have a splendid weekend and stay warm.

  4. Hopefully being inside this time will not effect your running pace too much. I do not think it should be too diiferent considering you have remained active since your last attempt. Either way, good luck tomorrow!

  5. Whoohoo goodluck girl! Running on the indoor track is the worst thing ever but it keeps you warm and out of the snow. I hope you hit a new PR tomorrow morning, Im sure you will. Just keep a steady pace and focus. Let me know how it goes!

  6. This really sounds like a challenge! For someone like me who isn't the biggest long distance runner, just running 2.5 miles is exciting, let alone trying to improve it continually! Also, it's so cool to hear that you guys cheer each other on like that. Your teammates generally understand what you're going through better than anyone else, and their support means so much

  7. I think you'll be great running your 2.5mile. Being that you have previously ran it and this will be your sixth time you should be more than ready to beat your time. I know you most likely beat that time. All it took was to be focused and prepare for your run. I know I would have a hard time trying to run a 2.5mile. Maybe one day I can try this.
